Yesterday I attended a Business Chicks breakfast with guest speaker Alyssa Camplin.
What a wonderful morning…besides meeting and having a coffee with two lovely business chicks from my table, Alyssa was quite the inspirational speaker. In sharing her journey to winning the Olympic Gold, her messages ring true for all of us, particularly in leadership.
I felt the need to capture her messages and share them with you (at least my interpretation of them).
- You cannot be good at anything you are not passionate about
- You will hit roadblocks, just do anything to keep the dream alive
- A vision without a plan is just a wish
- You need a mentor
- There will always be people providing roadblocks, holding up the stop signs, because if you fail, they look good
- Make sure you are not the one holding the stop sign
- Are you doing enough hard work when no-one is watching? Are you hungry enough for the success?
- Work with people who respect and believe in you
- Care about ANYTHING that can derail you or your people
- Focus on the process, not the outcome – you can break the process into small achievable chunks, and it keeps you in the present – where you can be in control
- You have all the power you need inside your own head, choose to use it
- It’s all about planning, detailed preparation and hard work – there is no silver bullet
- Prepare…prepare…prepare…execute
SO…Which one of these instantly connected with you when you read it? How does it apply to you and your leadership journey right now?
I challenge you to take 15 mins of your day right now to reflect on this and make some notes…
- where did my thoughts automatically go when I read this, what stood out for me?
- what does it explain?
- what changes do I need to make, or where do I need to re-focus?
- who can help me?
If you would like to explore this further and do some valuable thinking and reflection, I am offering five free 30 minute power-coaching sessions – over coffee, or over the phone – for the first ten readers to make contact with me. Call me on 0412 380 124 or email mi******@un******.com
Have an inspirational day!
